Mr Sunrise

I have seen many sun sets in my life. I am not trying to be philosophical and sentimental here. I literally mean I have seen many Sunsets, but I never have seen a sun rise. So today got up early and checked the sun rise timings, and it was 8:48am. The temerature was minus 2 deg but clear skies. I kept saying to myself that I cant allow the temperature get the better off me so I headed off to the beach with my trusty camera and tripod. My finger tips begin to hurt in spite of the gloves, but that wasn't enough to make me go back. After taking quite a few snaps I do have the satisfaction that "Finally saw the Sun rise, before my sun sets". Now i am being philosophical. Few more pictures on the link below.

Mr.Eddie Izzard

Since the time I have been in Dublin, i was always wondering how it would be like to listen to a person who has the gift of gab. What does it take one to perform with absolutely no props what so ever in front of a thousand, who paid quite a dear price without letting them to slip deep down into the spiraling abyss of boredom just by talking!!He has to make sure that he does not Monologue, does not repeat, makes the crowd laugh once every ten minutes or else, the smothering silence with be like Rain on a parade. Take it from me, my dear friends; making people laugh it definitely the toughest task. Here comes along Eddie Izzard, a transvestite. He is very popular across the world as one of the best stand up comedians. I thought, go for it just for the fact that I can claim later on "been there, done that". Paid hard earned 40€ and me and my good mate Mihir headed off to the O2 arena. This 'not so' ship shape guy comes on the diaz,(apparently he has run 43 marathons in 51 days with just 5 weeks of training). That is one record that no other standup comedian will ever break. I do respect that sheer will power of his. He started off with wikipedia and how civilisation started off and belive me he got all of us well within his story. within 30 minutes my throat was dry laughing. For me as a first timer i thought he was making it up all the time then and there, but only at the climax did i realize that it was well connected. That climax was 2.5 hours since he began!!! he had material made up to talk non stop ,2.5 hours of it. How good is that. I have seen the live at Apollo, and Eddie did not have any toilet humor or racists humor. He did not even pick out any member from the audience and make him curse his own existence like how other comedians vilify. There was a massive display put up where folks could twitter in messages and I did manage to get mine up there. The time was fantastic and i totally did not have any remorse for the money spent. Now, I want to go for one more. is Joe brand coming to town?

Visit to Kerry

Its' been a long time since I went on a long trip, its' mostly due to the weather that I have tethered myself down. but good company takes precedence over weather; so my good friend Chakra who currently is enjoying bachelorhood, because his better half is in the better part of the world (India) planned on a trip. Mihir another good friend of mine was in Ireland that weekend and so we decided to head to Kerry. Its the south western part of Ireland and has very many little islands sprinkled around it like bread crump on soup. "Dinlgle" whose very name has a definitive "tingle" was the destination. On Saturday morning at 5:30 am we headed off on the 350kms journey. The weather was absolutely horrendous. We got to our B&B; which is a pub come B&B was exactly in the middle of the small fishing town of Dingle. Thanks to rain gods all ferries to nearby islands where one can spot bottle nose dolphins a.k.a "Fungi" were all cancelled. Much later in the day weather calmed and we went out for a walk in the silent city. Some of the sign boards were amusing. I read 'Food server for Dingle residents only'. !! We stopped for a good dinner at a seafood restaurant where my non vegetarian friends had fresh Oysters and fish. Next day, after a wonderful breakfast we decided to head to the slay head, which is a scenic drive along the Dingle peninsula. Every time we stepped out of the car it was a battle against the wind. later we drove down to the "Ring of Kerry" which is a long 180 kms drive along the Kerry coast. The sights were heavenly, it made me feel insignificant, minuscule which on the contrary means I felt the world much larger than then tiny cubicles i spend my day . We stopped at the famous Killerny national park which is 10,400 hectares in area!! The entire landscape in the jungle was carpeted with the Irish colour ' Green'.The moss seems to be the chosen clothing for the damp trees. The thunderous waterfall sounded like a jet engine in full blast. Its mostly due to the incessant rains that has pounded the county since weeks. Sun sets by 5:30 here and we begun our trip back to Dublin. It was the journey (900 kms in total) that was fun and the beauty what nature offered was the seasoning to fun. This beautiful country side deserves another visit is what is etched in my head now, which i truly intend to fulfill when Ireland lets me soak up the sun.

Amature photgraphers meetup

I own a SLR since the last 7 months. I totally enjoy using it and have put it to good use during each and every trip of mine. I am a self learner and only after the first 600 snaps was I able to come out of the auto mode. Since then I have never been back. Dublin had a great web site called meetup and i had joined it many months ago. There was an amateur photography group but I had never joined them on any meetup's. This weekend there was a small celebration at O'Connel street where the christmas lights would be turned on by the mayor. On the site, I saw the group had planned to meetup. So there, that gave me a good enough reason to pack up my camera,Lenses and the Tripod and got to the meet up place. There were a few of them. Some of them for the first time and many of them were long timers. They were talking about being here at the same place last year. Me being Mr.Hasty in spite of knowing that it will drizzle, forgot a few essential things. Like the lens hood, lens cleaning cloth and most important of all an UMBRELLA!! Mr.Richard in the group was a pro and he was guiding most of them on how to operate and the various settings that would be optimal. Mayor of Dublin and the Dublin City Council Corporator showed up there was the count down and then came the lights!! It was beautiful. I must admire the spirit of the people. At least a thousand had gathered there weathering the irritating chill drizzle and the six degree temperature. I met guys from Costa Rica and Philippines and shared my experiences with the camera. I very weired thing happened at the meetup; it was like as though its meant to happen. All the "Nikkonias" were one group and the "Cannonians" the other. Later both the sub groups went to a pub and I headed to Pennys for a little shopping for myself with a humble wish in my mind; "May the next amateur photographers meetup be on a much sunnier day"

Happy get together with my Irish friends

It was the last week of my stay in the current apartment and I had proclaimed that I am an above average cook to some of my Irish friends. The concoction of the above two ideas means, I treat my good friends for a lovely south Indian style dinner. Getting all of them at the same place and time on a weekend was proving quite impossible, hence decided to have it over a weekday. I started from office ten minutes early and got on the job of cleaning the house first ( by default its very clean though) . The rice batter had fermented and risen well. Checked the invetory in the refrigerator and gave my friend, Mihir a call. I had never tried making the onion pakodas got the mix for that ready first. I had brought a few bananas that look like the kerala "nendram" bananas but the sticker on that said, Congo. Thought it would be nothing like it, but to my surprise before i binned it I just tasted it and "walla" it was almost the same!!. That resulted in some fantastic banana pakodas. prepared some veg puluo which would beat the can air freshener in fragrance. Mihir bhai took care of the potatoes and made the "aloo sagoo" for the masala dosa. Mihir bhai had come in with two bottles of the finest wines and so did Paula and Noreen. Paula was eager to open up the wine and all had some with the banana pakodas and god did they both go down well!! Masala dosas was next along with wine. What a terrific combination I must say. I must truly appriciate Noreen and Paula who had the food in Indian style, with bare hands!. We talked and sang and laughed and spoke. The perfect desert was the perfect ice cream. I can imagine the ice cream being a perfect topping on the wine and masala dosa in my tummy. Brought out my camera and lenses and everyone had a go at it. before we know it it was well past midnight. I was feeling sleepy because i am not used to late night stay ups. My good friends were having a good time. Finally bid good bye and all I remember was I slept like a log till 4 am, till the wine inside of me decided to come out the way it went it. None the less it was a great time we all had together.

Visit to Dun Loghaier

This was the last weekend of mine in the apartments I have been staying it. Our contract is up.Many of my wonderful trips were planned from this place. The last weekend here, i just did not want it to fade away. Dun Loghaire is a harbor in Dublin, around 10 kms south. Its' a more of a self sufficient town I must say. Looked out of my 8th floor window, Sun was shining, Loaded up my bag with my camera and Lenses and headed out. But God did I go wrong,in assessing the weather!. It was cold and very windy. I was almost knocked off my bike. Got to the Port and walked along the east Pier. its' more than a kilometer long. The stena line was getting loaded with passengers and cars with its engines humming all set to sail to Hollyhhead,Whales. The winds were so strong that i had to duck down and put my head low to keep the wind from knocking me down.Could not hold the camera steady many a times. All the while i was wondering what kind of massive effort would have gone into building this harbor, while I can even just hold a camera steady. The cold was getting to me and realised its better for me to get back to the warmth of my apartments keeping self preservation in mind.

Visit to Aran Islands

This trip started in a weired way. My debit card is good for nothing normaly. its not accepted on any online payment site. I found a site, that says book your ferry tickets to Aran islands. I tried it, assured that it will fail, and 'walla' it went through. Now i had book my entire trip around the ticket. So booked a bus ticket to Galway, from there another bus to the ferry terminal. Saturday morning 5 am, i am off to the Aran islands. It was sea sick on the ferry, but once i was sure footed on the island, it was a marvelous experience. The island has a population of 800 people, its 15 miles length and 3 mile width was short and sweet. I hired a bike and started exploring the few key places on the island. it seems in the entire country of Ireland, this is the only place where the native Irish language is spoken regularly and hence persevered. There were ruins of some ancient celtic forts, that dates back to 250 BC. The stone walls were facinating. The nature offered me fresh juicy black currants so i never went hungry. Stayed overnight and explored the dangerous cliffs. I was the only soul walking around and i was scared by the thunderous roar of the waves lashing the cliff side. I kept speaking aloud to myself. In another word, i kept my self engaged with myself. breath taking views and natures freshness i still feel if I just close my eyes and image what i saw sitting at the cliff edge.

Botanical Gardens revisited

I have been to the Dublin Botanical garden last December, and though there was much to see nothing was as colorful or as splendid as what I witnessed yesterday. It is autumn here where the leaves are turning to shades of wine red and the plants have their flowers at full blossom. The Botanical garden had plants from across the world and every single plant was well taken care off. What I likes the most is the giant tropic glass house. Its was like, being in Kerala. The humid and hot air inside, ans the smell of the Plantains and the coconuts was fantastic. I spent time just sitting there for a long time because it felt like home.

Visit to Belfast

Northern Ireland is not famous for Peace nor for Weather. I was ready to take my chance on "peace" but not on weather. So the last weekend weather was like a dream come true. Early saturday morning headed out to Belfast. On the first day, I got on to the Hop on and Hop off bus and toured the city to see the famous Dry dock where Titanic was built. Belfast had the largest Ship building indistry uptill 1960's. Now its dependent on Tourism. The 6 county's has been battered by violence. There are more than 17 peace walls cris crossing the city just to keep the different communities away from each other. The second day,i went out fo visit the reason why I came to Belfast. "Giants Causeway". Its a world heritage site. The very rare phenomenon of the rock formation is what attracts 800 thousand people to Northern Ireland. Some say, it was an Irish warrior who wanted to wage battle with the scottish, who by the way are at visible range from the Irish costline built those steps. Before heading to this place, i did cross the famous rope bridge. It seems a farmer used to take 11 sheep to graze on thsi tiny Island.
The giants Causeway was really a wonderful palce to Visit. every single stone looks man made and its precision and abundance does not stop to astound you no matter which direction you look at.
belfast was the best short trip I had. Totaly worth it.

My First Marathon

Call me "crazy" and I will thank you, because that is what I do the most and enjoy even more. Just a few days ago I noticed in the tabloids that there is a 10 mile marathon in Pheonix park. even without thinking if I will be able to do it or not, I decided I want to go. Some of them said I wont be able to do it because I have not trained. That wedesday evening I ran for 6kms and my legs hurt like hell. I was limping for the next two days. Yet I wanted to go, but found out that the tickets are sold out. But on my favorite Bulletin board I found one person giving away the ticket. Woohoo!!! Bought myself a pair of shorts, asked my Gurus Chris and Mihir, how to prepare and they gave me a few tips. Then off i began. There were seven thousand of them. In all shapes, sizes, colours and textures. It was drizziling, but not enough to kill our entusiasm. Found two other Indians there, but me carrying a heavy ego did no acknowledge them. They did the same. At 10 we started. I was number 1452. while at the 4 mile mark, noticed garda paving way from some one. I thought it must be the minister of sports. but it was the marathon leaders doing their 8th mile!! Holy cow!! Thats what professional runners are. I was glad to see the 6th mile marker, but my energy level was not down, it was my legs screaming " are you friggin, Crazy" . I walked for half a mile to give them a break. Water was supplied well and many old folks gathered just to cheer us up. Just a clap, or "your are nearly there, keep going" was enough for the extra two steps. The last mile was grueling, but made it just under two hours. Got a T and a lunch box. laid down on the grass and had them. After my suscessful completion on my return to Mr.Silver, I met those Indians again and this time we smiled and spoke, and wished each other "happy Independence day". The thoughts pondered in my head on my way back, and what I realised is events like this unite people, make them come out of the virtual shells they have created for them selves. Strangers patting out back, applauding us, lending water. Some of the girls even came close to me and teased me saying, 'catch me if you can' !! Sixteen kilometers was hard, but the results are more than just finishing the race.
Note: Enter 1452 in race number to see my time

Visit to Wicklow,Wexford

The third of August was a bank holiday,Hence it was a long weekend. Since the past one year in Dublin I have never wasted a single bank holiday. But tis time I decided to sit at home and waste it away.I wanted to go to Belfast, but due to some one's concern for me fearing that I would contract swine flu I stayed back. But my true desires were like prayers answered and on late friday evening my collogue called up to tell me that he has rented a car and free ride is the offer. I asked my other room mate to join me. We headed to the powercourt waterfalls first. Its Irelands highiest (128 ft) and then to the gardens. It was not cheap to visit this place costed each one of us 15€. From there we headed to the Glendalough. Its' the birth place for Christianity in Ireland. There was a 900 year old Monastary and the picturesque lake. On the way back we headed to the highest attitude pub, its' the Jonny Foxes pub, which is 200 years old. Every thing about it was old fashioned. I found it hard to gulp the food down, because it was authentic Irish food. We had to find our accomodation, which is an old BnB which came into existance in 1840. Its called the 'Old Coach House' which is by the side of a river and the location is called 'Meeting of the Rivers'. How 'novel ish' can it get!! Next day we went to the Motte stone, which was a large boulder atop a hill. Fom there we headed to wexford. We visited the Jhonstown castle which was really fantstic. The place was full of beautiful peacocks.Saw the gardens and the moved towards the duncannon castle which was rather disapointing. We were restricted from seeing anything. But then decided to drive down on a needle shaped peice of land extending into the sea. It was the Hooks ring. We reached an ancient 600 year old light house. The sea clashing agaist jagged rocks had a level of beauty.
We headed back to our BnB, rested and the next day we took a beautiful, scenic drive along the Wicklow mountains. It was three day spent well and returned with a lifetime full of memories. For more pictures, click on the link below

Noreen leaving drinks

Noreen belongs to the Ab Initio testing team. Her contracts ends this month hence she found herself a much more better job.For many months I was not interacting with the testing team, but since the past few months Paula, Noreen and I became very good friends. There was a drinks party arranged by AIB on thursday and Noreen thought its the best time to have her leaving drinks party as well.We all headed to Cullens the nearest pub and then the fun began. People are so very different when they are under the influence. They are more emotional and more talkative. But trust me,you can only fit into the group if you are accepted. I noticed that as the drinking began groups were formed and some were so very much ignored that they had to leave. When drunk, people want to talk to whom they absolutely want to talk to. I was the only guy sober there but every one was talking to me.I was the last Indian standing in the group! .The pub closes at 1, but the party goers wanted it to continue and we all went to Flannery's another pub. There was music and the dancing began, I was so sleepy that i would catch a few winks and then Noreen would wake me up and pull me back to the dance floor. We had a group photo taken and embossed into a key ring.My friend Mihir and Paula were fantastic on the dance floor. I simply had to stand back and watch them. I sometimes regret why I did not take to drinking because it looks like so much fun. Then my values kick and balance restored. This was the most memorable night out for me and I did this all for a key ring!!

Adventure starts when the thinking stops

On a fine Sunday morning, i decided what I will "NOT" do(sit at home). That gives me the option to think about what i "CAN" do. Thought what I would like to see. A mountain came to my mind. Google up for the nearest mountain. Its the "Sugar Loaf Mountain" 501m above sea level. Distance 24 kms. Put it on my GPS on phone and started at 10 am. Mr Silver and Miss Niki always ever ready for me. On the way, Silver stopped at a forest and Nikki took a few snaps. The moved on, adn realised that 24 kms is to the mountain, to get to an access point to the mountain then its further more. Finally got to the top of the mountain. It was a spectaculaor view. It was a total distance of 32kms and trust me, I pushed my self to my physical limits by the time i got back home. At 5:30pm. totaly a adventerous adventure.

Visit to Cork

Yet another trip planned near the water cooler at work. Right next to it sits Shane Khellar who is the most approachable person ever. He is from Co Cork and he agreed to give me a ride to his native place. There , the destination is fixed, but what will I do there beacuse he was leaving in another 4 hours. To my rescue came a very nice friend of mine.Noreen helped me out in telling me places to vist and printing out bus schedules and booking a BnB for me.Absolutely fantastic she is, because she is from Cork. Started out the 260kms journey by 7pm got to the accomodation. As per instructions, I did go to Kinsale first.A small fishing village where i walked around quite a bit and visited Fort Charles. That small town defines the phrase ' Cute little town'. Headed back to Cork and from there went to Fota. Its' an amzing wild life park where some animals roam out in the open.
I went to the Shannon church, and i dont know if i can prefix the word Cool with Church, if yes, then it was one. They allowed Visitors to ring the bells. The following day headed out to Blarney castle. I kissed the stone of Elequoence, which i beleive improve 'did the my english much very'. Though it was drizziling it was the best that could happen beacuse the gardens there came alive with such lush green splendor. Beleive me or not, I once reached the exit gate and I changed my mind and went back in to the gardens. Its the Rock Close garden, absolutely impressive. Finaly headed back to Cork and hooked up with Shane and Ean, headed back to my home away from home. Honestly folks I had undermined Cork before I got there;now withdrawn.

Niki was lucky to spot a quite a few Manatees. At the near by gardens many school teams were practicing music. I bet it they were preparing for some competition. Back in the city they spotted a giant Cruice shipe. THe Crown Princess.950 feet in length and 16 storeys high. "Massive". It was a fun sunday for all three of them.

Stopclimatechaos

It was an event that was staged by a group who are fighting for Ireland to step up and participate actively in the deal is due to be signed by the world leaders at a summit in Copenhagen. I took part in it, by holding up a blue peice of paper which was the front cover of one of the tabloid's yesterday. It was fun. Spent two hours on the beach on a bright sunny saturday.
This even was covered by the RTE and another telivision channel. I am glad that I got a chance to be here. There is a video as well, please see http://www.stopclimatechaos.ie/

Visit to Paris

Since the day I have been to Dublin, my eyes have been towards Paris. When the weather was great, decided to head down to the worlds most Romantic city. Got a visa and headed to the airport on a friday evening straight from work. After a little drama in the airport, (read it as me letting the plane with all passengers aboard waiting for 8 minutes) reached Paris at 1am.I was a bit anxious as I was in a city totally not familiar wondering how to get to my hostel. Looked into the not so dark sky and a beam of light kilometers long sweeping across was like the feeling of poping an asprin after a sever head ache.I was close to the Eiffelt tower. The METRO rains were running and I somehow found the route to the hostel. The accomodation as top notch.Breakfast served and free internet.
Day one in paris started off early, headed out to .hhmmm....you know where. There was wedding photographs taken at the base of the Iconic landmark. Stood in the queue for 1 hour and got a ticket to 3rd floor, thats' the top!! Fantastic weather allows us to see 72kms it seems. Beautiful city.I could actually mark the places I wanted to go from up there. I took a one day ticket on a hon on and hopp off boat ride, which did go to important places along the river side. The Notter damn,The Paris Orelans musuem,De louvre museum, The Hotel de ville(town hall), Garande Jardin(gardens). Till late night 12 I was in the city, reached Hostel back at 1 am.
Day two started at 9 am, went to the lovoure museum which took four hours for me to cover 40%.Went to the dome church and headed back to Hostel by 4.Took a one hour nap and headed out again to see how Paris looks by night.Went to the Grand Arche and the Louvre museum and got back at 12am again.
Day three first thing in the morning, took the first train to Euro Disney.Amazing place but surprisingly no water theme rides here. The rides that you would normally feel is for children actually is more than that, it's got the power to tranform you back to a child and make you eleigible for it.I did ride on a few roller coasters; nothing as massive and gravity defiying as the ones in US.Hollywood studios was fantastic. A group of cheerful teenagers were singing and dancing to the tunes of 'High School Musical'.Witnessed an exploding semi followed by a dam burst spilling out 200,000 liters of water to douse the flames. My only recomendation is go to Euro Disney with your loved one. If you dont have one you might be just fine. But if you have found the love of your life then every moment you end up thinking about him/her. There were times when I thought I wanted to get out of the places when I saw other cheerful couples and families having three times more fun than me on the same ride.
The Climax was dramatic, headed back to the Maillot to get the bus to the airport, but no Busses at 12 am again headed back to the Hostel where I had checked out earlier that morning. paid another 25€ and took a 4 hour nap there to get up at 4:30 and catch the first train out. I got back to "home away from home" base at 11am straight into office and realised that I forgot to bring one thing back from Paris.ooopppsss... My thoughts were still there, just my body was in front of the PC. Took me two full days to realise that I am in Dublin. Thats' Paris for me!

Scotland Visit

It all started at the water cooler in office, on the way back to my desk stopped at my friend's desk and asked him what is the next coolest place in UK to visit and he replied "Scotland". I asked him to book a return ticket for me over the weekend and "walla" my start and end of the trip is fixed, now all I had to do is fill up the gaps. Booked a hostel in Edibrugh and a one day tour. Thanks to my good luck(that means google maps) the Hostle was bang on the side of the most happening street of Edinburgh, 'The Royal mile'. The Hostle experneice was a first for me, 8 people(boys and girls) from around the world confined in a small room. The city is small enough, within 5 hours of walking we can see it all. The famous Edinburgh castle  marvelous. To date every 1'o clock a cannon is fired to let the ships and city keep a tab on time. The Scottish parliament(commissioned in 1998) was more of an expression of art rather than a place for Politics. On the day tour we did head out to the Lockness lake. The water is as dark as Guiness, temprature always minus 2 and its 27 mile length is haunting. I join the list of failures to spot the Monster. The snow capped mountains were so beautiful that it made me regret why did i ever not head to Kashmir. The city has so much history that the guide calls aything post 1800's as modern!

Adventure starts when you stop thinking

I got up one fine Sunday, had my breakfast and decided what I must "NOT" do. That is sit at room and watch movies. So unlocked my bike and decied to cycle to Bray, 17kms south of Dublin.
After getting there, thought I can push myself a little further. So I took a wonderful cliff walk from Bray to Greystones. 7 kms of beautiful/Scenic/breath taking walk along side the Irish sea. Reaching Greystones gave me an immense sense of acheivement. Thoght of heading back, got back to Bray to see my poor little, faithful bike with a flat. No shops to fix it and had to plead the inspectors at the Dart to allow me to take her back. It was one joyus trip of mine, and its been my first and belive it, its not going to be my last; its only going to get bigger.
